Dave, I dont think he specified any textures in the article, but maybe I
missed it. It looks like the texture across the glass may actually be a
light angled back towards the camera from above the object. It's hard to be
sure, the image is very small. Try that and see if it works.
If not, it may be a fractal noise in transparency, sort of like the cloud
cube texture, but with value set to 75% or less. If that's the case, then
the highlights would be fixed regardless of object angle. Not very realistic
if you are moving camera or object. You would have to add a texture velocity
and experiment with rate and direction to simulate a specular highlight
moving across the surface as the angle changes. Probably easier to use a
light.
